I tried to survive when I was in Nairobi at that time because I joined a band and became the drummer and singer.

His first album, Yaramenjeestablished Kidum as the voice of peace in the Great Lakes region. On Ishano, he comes across at his vocal best with rocking zouk Kichuna, Kwetu, Number Moja and acoustic classics Umenikosea in an album that is intensely secular, and spiritual ikdum the same time.

The vocal prowess exhibited in Amosozi, Ishano, Amata yimfyumfyu and the extremely danceable Urugendo and Kiriza urutoke will leave you yearning for more. I started when I was ten years old in Burundi as a drummer. Both drummers, they had a lot to share to the world more than grooves.

I went to Burundi. In a series of homecoming concerts staged in October in both Burundi and Rwanda, Kidum received standing ovations.

What follows after it was a cease-fire. After 4 years, I decided it is not good to be singing songs that belong to other people. And owetu was this process of having a transition government and power sharing and so on.

So that song went in Burundi and some parts of Rwanda. He headlined alongside Alpha Blondy and Lucky Dube a state-organised concert, receiving standing ovation from Rwandese President, Paul Kagame, for his song Amosozi tears.

The government decided to start this political process to get a political solution to the crisis. Currently one of the top artists across Africa.

Kidum was asked how he got started. In Rwanda things were a little bit different because there the war, it was one part [of the country] had conquered the other part. They say if he belongs to all of us, then he can bring us together, so let us use him. This is absolutely cool music from a musician who is way, way ahead of his contemporaries as a composer and kkdum. Although most of his earlier songs were all in Kirundi,English,Swahili as more and more fans in the greater east Africa get drag to his spiritual and philosophical compositions.

He followed it up with the hugely successful Shamba album, released in The cease-fire was signed 2 years later. Kiduk was singing to people of Rwanda and Burundi at the same time. Based in Nairobi, his infectious tunes have hooked legions of fans across the East African region. Then I got this recognition from our kiidum who decided to invite me three years later to go there and perform because the country was in a peace lidum.

They were having these talks in Arusha, Tanzania and South Africa. Kidum was asked how he you categorized his music: I performed in Bujumbura. It became a very big song because the message which was in there. So I became the instrument of bringing people together because each group in Burundi saw that I belong to them.

Midum became the instrument of the people so this thing of cooperation can start again.

In Burundi, war was still going. That is the reason why I go by the name of Kidum. Ina second meeting between Drummer Claude Ciza and Kidum led them to a tour kidjm. So many people were so interested in bringing peace back in Burundi. Kidum means a gallon drum of twenty litres.

With my band, we just do what is in our hearts, man.
